DORA curates a wealth of resources to help you advance responsible research assessment! Read below and explore what would benefit you and your organizations.
Case Studies
A repository of stories of innovation and change, highlighting how various organizations (now including universities and national consortia, to be expanded to funders and publishers soon) are implementing change. This repository is intended to inspire institutions seeking to review or improve academic career assessment. Each case study provides an honest account of any barriers to change that were encountered and how these were overcome.
By providing real-world examples of the task of implementing reform, the case studies are collectively helping to facilitate a “practical turn” toward implementation of fair and responsible academic career assessment practices. The development and implementation of new practices at an organizational level takes time, and typically occurs over a number of years. The national and institutional context of the organization also influences the change process.
Each case study shares:
- Who: Organization profile
- What: What changed and the key elements of change
- Why: Motivation for change
- How: Processes and dynamics for developing, implementing and managing change
- When: Timeline for development and implementation
Reformscape Catalogue
Reformscape is a global catalogue collating hundreds of examples of research performing institutions implementing new ways of assessing for hiring, promotion and tenure and for faculty roles at the assistant, associate and full professor levels. The catalogue will soon be expanded to include other initiatives in different parts of the system. It highlights publicly available examples of responsible research assessment, categorized by themes like open research, equity, and responsible metrics, to support learning and transparency across institutions.
You can use Reformscape to:
- Search and filter examples by location, career stage, discipline and date.
- Access source materials to dig into the details of announcements, action plans, policies and published practices.
- Read expertly curated insights and commentary by the DORA team drawn straight from the data.
- Share institutional profiles and insights with your networks to spark conversations and celebrate progress.
- There are many different pathways to reform and we hope this tool helps the scholarly community learn from, share and celebrate the progress made so far, inspiring others on their own journeys.
